Pensions.
53. (i) All officers appointed before the 1st July, 1897, who continue to draw dollar salaries, are entitled to the 3/8 rate for pension purposes, except those officers who still retain the 4/- rate for pension by reason of not having received at any one time an increase, either by promotion or without change of appointment, amounting to 10 per cent of their emoluments.
(ii) All officers appointed between the 1st July, 1897, and 1st January 1903, inclusive, who continue to draw dollar salaries, will draw their pension at 3/- to the dollar.
(iii) In the case of pensioners living in the Federated Malay States, the Colony, or in adjacent countries, pensions will be paid monthly at one of the Federated Malay.. States Treasuries or the Colonial Treasary. Pensioners residing in the United Kingdom will be paid through the Crown Agents. In the case of pensioners residing in countries other than those referred to, the mode of payments may vary, being either through the Crown Agents, a Colonial Government, or in such manner as the Government here may decide.
(iv) Pensions will be paid in England, Cyprus, and in non-Asiatic countries, of which the currency is based on a gold standard, at the rate of exchange authorised in each case.

(v) in British India and Ceylon pensions will be paid at the annual rate fixed by this Government. Sterling pensions will be drawn at the annual current fixed rate.
(vi) In cases where a pensioner is resident in Netherlands India, Mauritius, Japan, Siam or the Philippine Islands, or in any place where the currency

is based on a silver standard, he will be paid at the current rate of exchange of the day.
(vii) The maximum pension or retiring allowance from all sources combined, grantable under the Federated Malay. States Pensions Enactment to an officer entitled to pension or retiring allowance, whether in respect of service under the Government of the Federated Lalay.. States of elsewhere, shall not exceed £2,000 per annum including temporary allowance; provided that the limit of £2,000 shall not apply to any officer who entered the publie service of the United Kingdom or of a Colony or of a Protectorate before the 26th day of August, 1902.
